to introduce myself, I left, informally (didn't DA), about 4 months ago but if my experience can be of any help, I will say that before leaving for good, you have to make it clear in your mind that you must not do it with misgivings, regrets or guilt feelings. Reading the BEST OF on this site will help you transform your doubts into certainty about what harm this organization can do to the individuals and their families. Once you will have cleansed your mind of JW mental automatisms (starting with making a difference between the Bible teaching and the heavy stifling, and most of the time unscriptural, rules that the WTS inferes from this teaching in daily life), you will find that it's not so difficult to drop out altogether and that possible, probable, shunning from JWs is still better than faking. You will by then have gathered up strength to face the difficulties which will not fail to arise and you will be able to make decisions, such as the ones about divorcing and remarrying, in accord with your conscience, and Bible principles if you keep believing in them after you have sorted all that out, and not according to the WTS standards. Soap and standard 1 or 2 blade disposable razor, economical and works perfectly. Many blades amount to as many scraping of the skin, not very good healthwise.

Feeling numb... feeling like I did when I first DAed.
by Elsewhere inmy dad recently told all the kids that he has terminal cancer.
he is going to die... could be in a month... could be in a year.. all the kids recently visited my parents over last weekend.
i was allowed to come too due to the "family business" clause in the wts rules.. yesterday i cried... i'm still crying a bit today and am feeling numb.

I've never had to handle a situation likes yours because I'm (was) about the only JW in the family, so I offer you the best I have, sympathy. What I experienced before my Mum passed away 3 years ago, past 91, and found it very comforting, was staying with her as much as I could, every evening, because we both knew that time was getting precious. It was a comforting feeling, afterwards, to know that I had done as much as I had been able to, and I believe it was a solace to her to see 2 of her 3 children, and one of her grand daughters, near her in those instants. I'm sure that your JW family won't bar you from doing so, JWs as they are, they are humans and, who knows, you might get closer to one another in these circumstances. My best wishes to you, and to your Dad.
A thought for Purps who hasn't had a chance to draw closer to her Mum last WE.

can you really ever fade with immediate family still in?
by oompa ini am beginning to think not....elders still want to call on me rather than befriend me in any way.....and with a "good" wife and son and parents in, it seems like i still have one foot in only because of the overlap with my other "free" self........it is hard to really feel free in this situation, and is still have desire to just run the fluck away.....which would mean pretty much giving up my family in nearly every respect.
some here really miss their family and wife, others so love the freedom they seem able to move on and start fresh....as you know, i dont seem to have the balls for that, and at this point in my life the price seems to high to fully start over........it is the "one in one out limbo dance"......oompa.

I stopped attending all meetings about 3 months ago but it hasn't entailed any drama at home. Children have long stopped attending, my wife still goes, when she feels for. I give her a lift to the KH, collect her at the end unless she prefers taking the bus with a few sisters, I say hello to JWs I come across, as simple as that. Can't see a problem there.

You are perfectly right, not much remains to cling to, except a personal relationship to God with plenty of unanswered questions. Leaving a religion like JWs without an alternative leaves you with this desillusioned opinion : Toutes les mêmes... (all alike). That is an aspect of its destructiveness.
